Control Measure

Synopsis

  • From 1976-1979 a small scale study resulted in the elimination of tsetse from 100 square kilometers in the Guinea savannah south of Bobo Dioulasso.
  • A larger effort followed in the area of approximately 3000 square kilometers
  • Insecticide-impregnated screens were used to reduce the population
  • In May 1983 sterile males were released
  • By October 1983 no wild flies were recorded and the area remained fly free 6 months after the campaign.
  • The campaign ended in 1984
