Synopsis

  • This  study was conducted between 1980 and 1982
  • The study integrated insecticide-impregnated targets, traps and the sterile insect technique to eradicate Glossina palpalis palpalis in an area of the sub-humid zone of Nigeria.
  • The study area was 1500 square kilometers
  • A minimum sterile:wild male ratio of 10:1 was necessary to eradicate
    G. p. palpalis
  • The sterile insect technique proved successful where other methods were considered unsuitable.
